Kay's Story...

By 2006, Kay Spears, Certified Clinical Nutritionist, had all the professional and academic credentials to be considered among South Texas' most respected nutritional experts. But Kay was soon to realize that even she had much to learn about total wellness.

On a January morning of that year, Kay arose to get ready for work. But as she took her first step out of bed, Kay instantly fell to the ground. Lying on the floor, she looked up and the room was spinning out of control. What was happening, she wondered?

For the next five months she was afflicted with what later was diagnosed as vertigo. So serious was the affliction that Kay couldn't drive, and her ability to work and interact with clients was severly limited.  For the 38-year-old nutritionist, life as she knew it come to an abrupt halt.

As doctors were unable to control Kay's vertigo, she began a costly, desperate search to find what precisely was causing her condition. Kay sought answers from unconventional sources -- an assortment of "spiritual healers" who she hoped had the cure for her disorder. One after another, Kay met with these practitioners, but not one was able to help. As Kay's vertigo continued, her life remained at a standstill, and she became increasingly bitter and angry.

Frantic for help, Kay ultimately visited a doctor that she considered a friend. He asked Kay to explain her symptoms. Tired, frustrated and scared, Kay launched into a tirade of self pity. Why, she asked, couldn't ANYBODY help her?  Why was this happening to her?

Ultimately, Kay looked her doctor in the eye and posed the question she had been pondering for months: Was God, for some reason, punishing her?

What happened next would mark a turning point in Kay's life. The doctor put his hand on her shoulder and spoke the words that proved to be the "medicine" Kay had been looking for: "God isn't punishing you. Jesus loves you."  Instantly, Kay began weeping uncontrollably. All her life, she had acknowledged the existence of God but never understood the immensity of His love and the significance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. For the first time, Kay grasped what is found in Ephesians 3:19... May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it? Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Her vertigo subsided, and even as a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, Kay learned something new: true health encompasses not just physical components, but emotional as well.

Today, Kay’s unique ability to articulate these principles has made her a highly sought after speaker throughout South Texas. Even while maintaining a practice in San Antonio, Kay is the host of her own Internet radio program, Choose Life, and is a regular guest on other health related programs. She is the author of a forthcoming book, and her articles have been published in NSIDE, M.D., a respected San Antonio based medical journal. Kay earned her master's degree in science and nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in October, 2010.
